Thread Forming Grease Fittings
To save tapping cost thread forming (spin drive) grease fittings have special tapered drive threads for fast production line installation in untapped holes. Installation force causes the material of the untapped hole to reshape conforming to the fittings thread contour and provides a leakproof permanent seal. Spinning these fittings into an untapped hole provides the most effective installation, but they may also be driven in directly. They cannot be used in heat treated parts. The lubrication fittings are heat treated at Rockwell 83-89 on the 15N scale. These fittings may be replaced by standard fittings having the same thread size. Thread Forming Grease Fittings are also referred to as Thread Forming Zerk Fittings, Thread Forming Lubrication Fittings, and Thread Forming Grease Zerks.
